La Dolce Vita: An Eternal Fascination
In the vibrant heart of the Eternal City, the unmistakable spirit of la dolce vita was brought back to life during an unforgettable evening dedicated to the timeless allure of Rome, Italian elegance, and classic cinema. Via Veneto, an iconic emblem of Roman nightlife in the 1950s and ’60s, resumed its legendary rhythm to inaugurate Dolce&Gabbana’s Alta Gioielleria, Alta Moda, and Alta Sartoria events.
Surrounded by vintage cars and the iconic Vespa, guests were welcomed by the flash of paparazzi and immersed in an atmosphere evocative of the golden age of the international jet set, complete with divas, actors, and directors who defined an era. Along this storied avenue, the Westin Excelsior Hotel, an enduring symbol of Roman high society, was transformed into a spectacular stage, meticulously curated to evoke the elegance and glamour of a bygone time. Framed by the echoes of unforgettable cinematic masterpieces, Dolce&Gabbana raised the curtain on a celebration of heritage, artistry, and timeless beauty.
Secret Archive: The Exhibition
Via Veneto served as the vibrant heart of the opening night. Just outside the iconic Westin Excelsior Hotel, the exhibition SECRET DOLCE VITA, curated by Edoardo Dionea Cicconi, debuted SECRET ARCHIVE, a remarkable photographic collection featuring millions of previously unseen negatives and glass plates, revealing an intimate portrait of Italy throughout the 20th century.
Supported by Dolce&Gabbana, this extraordinary narrative comes to life, where glamour, cinema, and fashion converge into a rare and evocative glimpse of the past. Opened to the city of Rome as a heartfelt tribute, the exhibition invites visitors into an “urban film”, a dreamlike, emotional journey where the city itself, unaware of its starring role, radiates beauty beneath the gaze of the world.
The sequence of images, ideally introduced by the spirit of Federico Fellini, captures a state of mind: an era suspended between euphoria and nostalgia, performance and authenticity. What unfolds is a narrative rich in contrast, where iconic, flash-lit moments are interwoven with candid glimpses of everyday life, far removed from the spotlight. The macro meets the micro, revealing a layered, multidimensional portrait of the city.
The open-air exhibition is open to the public from July 13th to 17th, made possible through the collaboration with Roma Capitale and the Department of Major Events, Sport, Tourism, and Fashion, under the leadership of Alessandro Onorato.
